Daily Navratri Puja at Home: A Simple 15-Minute Routine
A clear, adaptable home puja routine for Navratri, with a sankalp, lamp, prayer, mantra, and a calm close that fits a busy day.
Prepare a small, steady space
Choose a clean, quiet place for daily Navratri worship. Keep an image or murti of Devi, water, flowers or akshat, a lamp, and prasad according to your custom. You do not need every item; adapt the puja to what is practical at home.
Choose a time you can keep. If morning is not possible, prayer in the evening is also meaningful. Place lamps and incense safely, away from children, and ensure the room has suitable ventilation.
A 15-minute puja sequence
Wash your hands and face, then sit quietly at the altar. Make a simple sankalp that you are dedicating this time to remembering Devi and practising good conduct. Offer water, light a lamp, and meditate on Maa Durga.
Recite a Durga mantra, Durga Chalisa, a Devi hymn, or your family prayer. If time is short, chant “Om Dum Durgayai Namah” for a few minutes. Close with an aarti or brief prayer and offer prasad. Details of the ritual differ by tradition.
Carry one intention through the nine days
Add one small intention to each day’s worship—gratitude, patience, courage, compassion, or service. If you remember the nine forms of Devi, read about the form honoured that day and choose one quality to practise.
Sadhana need not remain at the altar. Helping someone, respecting food, avoiding harsh speech, and sharing household work can bring devotional values into everyday life.
Choose consistency without pressure
If work, study, caregiving, or travel makes a full puja impossible one day, do not blame yourself. Offer a brief prayer or remember Devi inwardly, then continue your routine. Invite children and other family members to join, without pressuring them into a role or recitation.
If your home follows a specific practice from a teacher or family tradition, give that priority. This routine is a simple starting point for beginners, not a replacement for a tradition or a compulsory rule.
