Sharad Navratri 2026: Ghatasthapana, Nine Days of Puja, Colors, and Sadhana

Sharad Navratri 2026 is listed to begin on Sunday, October 11, with Ghatasthapana performed on the same day. Panchangs show Pratipada tithi running from the night of October 10 into the night of October 11, so the observance begins on October 11.

Navratri celebrates Maa Durga's shakti, compassion, and protection. These nine nights guide the devotee from inner heaviness, fear, laziness, and ego toward greater awareness, purity, and courage.

These nine forms guide the seeker toward steadiness, tapas, courage, creation, motherly care, protection of dharma, removal of fear, purity, and spiritual fulfillment.

Each day, meditate on one form of Devi and choose one related practice. For example, practice restraint on Brahmacharini's day, courage on Katyayani's day, facing fear on Kalaratri's day, and purity of mind on Mahagauri's day.

Navratri fasting emphasizes sattvic food, restraint, cleanliness, and remembrance of Devi. Some devotees follow fruit-based fasting, some eat one meal, and some observe mental discipline. Fast according to health, age, and circumstance; devotion is not meant to harm the body.

On Ashtami or Navami, many families perform Kanya Puja. Young girls are honored as forms of Devi, offered food, and given dakshina. This worship becomes meaningful when respect, compassion, and protection for women are also practiced in daily life.

Navratri culminates in Vijayadashami, symbolizing the victory of dharma over adharma. Through Devi worship, the devotee receives strength, and Dussehra inspires that strength to enter real-life decisions.

Keep one simple sankalp this Navratri: restraint in speech, cleanliness at home, a daily lamp, and victory over one negative habit. This is the form of worship that remains with the seeker even after the festival ends.
