Powerful hymn by Ravana describing Lord Shiva's cosmic dance
जटाटवीगलज्जलप्रवाहपावितस्थले गलेऽवलम्ब्य लम्बितां भुजङ्गतुङ्गमालिकाम्। डमड्डमड्डमड्डमन्निनादवड्डमर्वयं चकार चण्डताण्डवं तनोतु नः शिवः शिवम्॥
Transliteration:
Jaṭā ṭavī galajjala pravāha pāvita sthale Gale'valambya lambitāṃ bhujaṅga tuṅga mālikām | Ḍamaḍḍamaḍḍamaḍḍama nināda vaḍḍamarvayaṃ Chakāra chaṇḍatāṇḍavaṃ tanotu naḥ śivaḥ śivam ||
Translation:
With the flow of Ganga on His matted hair purifying the place, wearing a garland of serpents coiled around His neck, and the drum making the sound 'Damat Damat', may Lord Shiva, who performs the fierce Tandava dance, grant us auspiciousness.

My mind finds joy every moment in Lord Shiva, who has the flowing Ganga on His head like waves dancing in a pot, and whose forehead blazes with the fire making the sound 'Dhagad Dhagad', wearing the crescent moon.

May my mind find delight in Lord Shiva, who is the companion of Parvati (daughter of the mountain king), whose mind rejoices spreading in all directions, who by His merciful glance stops all terrible calamities, and who wears the directions as His garment.

May my mind find wonderful delight in Lord Shiva, the supporter of all beings, whose matted locks have serpents with gleaming gem-like hoods, whose body is smeared with saffron and vermillion, and who wears an elephant hide as His upper garment.

Sahasra lochana prabhṛtya śeṣa lekha śekhara Prasūna dhūli dhoraṇī vidhūsarāṅghri pīṭha bhūḥ | Bhujaṅga rāja mālayā nibaddha jāṭa jūṭaka Śriyai chirāya jāyatāṃ chakora bandhu śekharaḥ ||
Translation:
May He who has the moon as His crest jewel, whose feet are worshipped by Indra and all gods with showers of flowers, and whose matted hair is bound with the king of serpents, bring us prosperity for a long time.

May the matted locks of the great skull-bearer bring us prosperity - He who burnt the five arrows of Kamadeva with the sparks from the fire on His forehead, who is the lord of the Ganga, and whose crown shines with the nectar-rayed moon.

My devotion is to the three-eyed Lord, whose terrible forehead blazes with fire that consumed the fierce five arrows of Kamadeva, and who is the unique artist who designed the beautiful ornaments on the breasts of Parvati, daughter of the mountain king.

May He who bears the Ganga, who wears a tiger skin, who is the friend of the moon, and who bears the burden of the universe, grant us prosperity - He whose neck is bound with the darkness of the new moon night blocked by new rain clouds.

I worship Him whose neck shines with the dark blue hue of the blooming blue lotus, who destroyed Kamadeva, who destroyed Tripura, who destroys worldly existence, who destroyed Daksha's sacrifice, who destroyed the elephant demon, who destroyed Andhaka, and who destroyed even Yama (death).

Akharva sarva maṅgalā kalā kadamba mañjarī Rasa pravāha mādhurī vijṛmbhaṇā madhuvratam | Smarāntakaṃ purāntakaṃ bhavāntakaṃ makhāntakaṃ Gajāntakāndhakāntakaṃ tamantakāntakaṃ bhaje ||
Translation:
I worship the destroyer of Kamadeva, Tripura, worldly existence, Daksha's sacrifice, the elephant demon, Andhaka, and death itself - He who is like a bee enjoying the sweet honey flowing from the kadamba flowers of all auspicious arts.

Jayatvadabhravibhrama bhramad bhujaṅgama śvasad Vanīya sad bhujaṅgama mauli marbhaṭāya bhūtaye | Sahasra lochana prabhṛtya śeṣa lekha śekhara Prasūna dhūli dhoraṇī vidhūsarāṅghri pīṭha bhūḥ ||

Victory to Him who has serpents moving in the sky around His head, who is the lord of all beings, whose feet are worshipped by Indra and all gods with showers of flowers.

Translation:
When will I worship Lord Sadashiva with a mind that sees equally - between a bed of wood and a beautiful couch, between a garland of serpents and pearls, between precious gems and clods of earth, between friends and enemies, between grass and lotus eyes, between subjects and kings?
Meaning:
This verse expresses the desire to attain the equanimous vision of Shiva, who sees all dualities as equal.
कदा निलिम्पनिर्झरीनिकुञ्जकोटरे वसन् विमुक्तदुर्मतिः सदा शिरःस्थमञ्जलिं वहन्। विमुक्तलोललोचनो ललामभाललग्नकः शिवेति मन्त्रमुच्चरन् कदा सुखी भवाम्यहम्॥

Kadā nilimpa nirjharī nikuñja koṭare vasan Vimukta durmatiḥ sadā śiraḥstham añjaliṃ vahan | Vimuktalalalo lochano lalāma bhāla lagnakaḥ Śiveti mantram uchcharan kadā sukhī bhavāmyaham ||

When will I become happy, living in a cave near the Ganga's waterfalls, free from evil thoughts, always holding my hands in prayer above my head, with eyes closed in meditation, my forehead marked with sacred ash, chanting the mantra 'Shiva'?

Nilimpa nātha nāgarī kadamba maula mallikā Nigumpha nirbhakṣaran madhūṣṇikā manoharaḥ | Tanotu no mano mudaṃ vinodinīṃ mahaniśaṃ Pariśraya paraṃ padaṃ tadaṅgaja tviṣāṃ chayaḥ ||
Translation:
May the collection of the brilliance of Parvati's limbs, which is charming like bees humming around the kadamba and jasmine flowers in the city of the lord of Ganga, grant us mental joy and delight day and night, being the supreme refuge.

प्रचण्डवाडवानलप्रभाशुभप्रचारणी महाष्टसिद्धिकामिनी जनावहूत जल्पना। विमुक्तवामलोचनो विवाहकालिकध्वनिः शिवेति मन्त्रभूषगो जगज्जयाय जायताम्॥

Prachaṇḍa vāḍavānala prabhā śubha prachāraṇī Mahāṣṭa siddhi kāminī janāvahūta jalpanā | Vimuktavāma lochano vivāha kālika dhvaniḥ Śiveti mantra bhūṣago jagaj jayāya jāyatām ||
Translation:
May the sound of 'Shiva' mantra, which spreads auspiciousness like the fierce submarine fire, which is desired by seekers of the eight great siddhis, which is praised by people, which is the sound of the wedding (of Shiva and Parvati), bring victory to the world.

इमं हि नित्यमेवमुक्तमुत्तमोत्तमं स्तवं पठन्स्मरन् ब्रुवन्नरो विशुद्धिमेतिसन्ततम्। हरे गुरौ सुभक्तिमाशु याति नान्यथा गतिं विमोहनं हि देहिनां सुशङ्करस्य चिन्तनम्॥

Imaṃ hi nityam evam uktam uttamottamaṃ stavaṃ Paṭhan smaran bruvan naro viśuddhim eti santatam | Hare gurau subhaktim āśu yāti nānyathā gatiṃ Vimohanam hi dehinaṃ suśaṅkarasya chintanam ||

One who reads, remembers, and recites this supreme hymn daily attains constant purity. He quickly gains devotion to Lord Shiva, the supreme guru, and no other path. Indeed, meditation on the auspicious Shankara removes delusion from embodied beings.

Translation:
One who reads this hymn sung by the ten-headed Ravana at the end of Shiva worship during Pradosha time, to him Lord Shambhu always grants stable Lakshmi (prosperity) accompanied by chariots, elephants, and horses, with a pleasant face.
