1

Verse 1

सरस्वती नमस्तुभ्यं वरदे कामरूपिणि। विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा॥

Transliteration:

Sarasvatī namastubhyaṃ varade kāmarūpiṇi | Vidyārambhaṃ kariṣyāmi siddhirbhavatu me sadā ||

Translation:

Salutations to you, O Saraswati, giver of boons, who takes the form the devotee desires. I begin my studies; may success always be mine.

Meaning:

This is the traditional invocation recited before beginning any study or learning, seeking Saraswati's blessing for success in education.

Verse 2

या कुन्देन्दुतुषारहारधवला या शुभ्रवस्त्रावृता। या वीणावरदण्डमण्डितकरा या श्वेतपद्मासना॥

Transliteration:

Yā kundendutuṣārahāradhavalā yā śubhravastrāvṛtā | Yā vīṇāvaradaṇḍamaṇḍitakarā yā śvetapadmāsanā ||

Translation:

She who is as white as the jasmine flower, the moon, and a garland of frost; who is draped in pure white garments; whose hands are adorned with the veena; who is seated upon a white lotus.

Meaning:

This verse describes the radiant, pure form of Goddess Saraswati — dressed in white, holding the veena, seated on a white lotus, symbolizing purity, music, and the arts.

Verse 3

या ब्रह्माच्युत शङ्करप्रभृतिभिर्देवैः सदा वन्दिता। सा मां पातु सरस्वती भगवती निःशेषजाड्यापहा॥

Transliteration:

Yā brahmācyuta śaṅkaraprabhṛtibhirdevaiḥ sadā vanditā | Sā māṃ pātu sarasvatī bhagavatī niḥśeṣajāḍyāpahā ||

Translation:

She who is eternally worshipped by Brahma, Achyuta (Vishnu), Shankar and other gods — may that goddess Saraswati, who removes all dullness of intellect, protect me.

Meaning:

This closing verse of the famous Saraswati Vandana prays that the goddess, revered even by the Trinity of gods, may remove all ignorance and dullness from the devotee's mind.
