Krishna Vasudevaya

Significance

This verse comes from the Bhagavata Purana and is chanted as a direct surrender (sharanagati) to Krishna. Each name carries a distinct meaning: Vasudeva points to his birth as the son of Vasudeva, Hari to his power to remove sin and suffering, Paramatma to his nature as the Supreme Soul within all beings, and Govinda to his role as protector and giver of joy. Reciting it is traditionally believed to dissolve klesha - the mental and emotional afflictions that trouble a devotee - by placing full trust in Krishna's grace. It is a simple, single-verse mantra suited to daily morning or evening recitation.
